Brief personal introduction: I am one of three 8th grade teachers from Wittenberg-Birnamwood who is working on a collaborative multi-disciplinary project. Others in my group are Katie Kaufman and Laurie Tracey.
Overview of content/topic level of unit plan:
The topic of the unit: Gulf Oil Spill 2010
The project idea—the real-world connections, role of the student, and a general idea of the overall project:
To connect science, literature, social studies to the current news topic: Gulf Oil Spill 2010. Students will have an opportunity to research, analyze, and make connections between past and current events.
Concerns, questions, and desired feedback Add to your wiki page in the upcoming modules as you develop your ideas.
1. Is the scope of this project too large?
2. As a group each of us wanted to incorporate technology and also connect our disciplines into this one unit. I hope we connect cohesively.
3. I didn't want to overwhelm too much into unit and not have enough time. Plus we have to share a computer lab in our district which makes it slightly difficult to do so we tried to share the load.
Other Participant's unit plans reviewed: Jackie Berndt and Jean Broomell
Other resources and ideas to save or share with others:
You tube videos of the disaster. Videos of Obama's oil spill speech. Students love to listen and watch files online rather than always read printed documents.
